Happy New Year! This is my 57th year of writing the Yocum news. I always look forward to writing them, maybe they will be put in a book. I don’t think anyone else has wrote as long as me and I want to keep the Yocum community alive.

Greetings from Capps. I'm having to get caught up myself as I was in New Mexico for 5 days visiting my mother, brother and son. She's being treated for liver cancer so any prayers for her recovery are appreciated. I guess I missed out on some good weather while I was gone, but the snow-capped Sandia mountains were quite beautiful. Our good friend Jesse Moore is in the hospital in Fayetteville with some serious issues, we're believing for good outcomes for him. The yearly numbers are in for the Capps-Batavia Fire Department. We responded to 79 total calls, including structures, brush fires, gas and smoke alarms and vehicle fires/ traffic control. We continue to have excellent response times and adequate or better equipment and personnel on each call. We are always looking for dedicated volunteers to join our ranks. If you're interested, come by one of our monthly training meetings the 4th Monday of the month at the Capps Firehouse on Old Capps Road just off Hwy 392 West at 7 p.m. Blessings, Doug

Because my husband, Carl, was one of the characters in the youth group Christmas play we were invited to attend their party. we had a Lot of fun participating in the games. Jesse Moore is in the hospital at the time of this writing. Several different things not working right in his body. Prayers and Get-well wishes go out to Jesse. I am glad to see the weather warming up some. We had a tough December!

Greetings from Capps. We survived! Last week we welcomed winter to town and now we bid it farewell, we'll, back to more moderate temperatures and rain more appropriate for this time of year. I trust that you had a meaningful, memorable and safe Christmas, ours was simple and humble, just a small meal with our very dear friend, Najean Greer. Thanks to the Cone clan for providing the fare, (I dropped in briefly at the Cone Christmas party)as my grandiose meal plans were kiboshed by back to back fire calls to Capps Batavia Fire Department. Christmas eve, we aided Omaha with a structure fire in the center of that town. It reignited early Christmas morning and we were back on the scene for 4-5 hours. Other than that, the rest of the week was spent breaking ice, feeding cows and distributing the last of our Christmas cards to the neighbors, including Sharon Casey and Joel Blackwell. Our friend, Russell Faddis, is still in the hospital, hopefully his legs will get better so he can be a bit more mobile soon. As we enter a new year, it's always good to reflect on the trials and successes of the past year, it makes us thankful that through it all, God has been faithful. We wish you a happy new year filled with abundant blessings, Doug and Jennifer

Arkansas PBS and 47 libraries across the state have collected more than 2,500 sweaters in the 2022 Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Sweater Drive held Nov. 5-30 as a tribute to Fred Rogers and his example of being a caring neighbor. Items collected in this drive are now being distributed by various local charities as frigid temperatures are forecast to enter the state this week.

Carl Ramsey got a nice call from his friend Louis Melton, wishing him a Merry Christmas. It was good to hear from Louis. He and Carl have been friends for a long time. Restoration Life Fellowship youth group presented their Christmas Play Sunday evening of this week. Jackie Rylee and her children directed the play. They always do a great job. I visited briefly with Elaine Smith by way of phone one day this week. She and Tim were out and about taking care of business.

Today is another cloudy day, it has been this way for the last 3 days. I had an aunt, Althea, who loved these kind of days where she could stay in and sew. Not me, I like sunny days.
