During the recent 80th anniversary of D-Day, I watched a reporter interviewing a World War II veteran. At 97 years old, he is one of the youngest remaining WWII veterans as he was so anxious to enter the fight that he lied about his age and joined the Navy at 16. When asked if he thought kids today would do the same, he said no explaining that most kids don’t seem to understand much about patriotism or serving their nation these days. He added that lately, when he looks around at what’s going on, he feels like a foreigner in his own country.
