Arkansas Senate committee hearing on crypto in Harrison on Monday

Posted

State legislators are cutting through the noise: The noise pollution of crypto mining and its effects on children and education will be the topic of an upcoming Arkansas senate committee meeting in Harrison. The Arkansas Senate Committee on Children and Youth will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 24, at the JPH Convention Center at the South Campus of North Arkansas College, located at 1515 Pioneer Drive in Harrison.

The purpose of the committee meeting will be to discuss concerns regarding the potential effects of crypto mining noise on nearby daycare centers and schools, recognizing that crypto mining operations involve the use of cooling systems and generators, which can generate broadband noise and low-frequency hums.

Many constituents are concerned that these noise disturbances can cause disruptions and negative impacts on public health, property and the environment. Given the close proximity of a potential mining facility to a childcare center, the noise generated and its impact on the well-being and learning environment of children will be the main issue of discussion.

On the committee meeting agenda will be speaking sessions from Harrison City Attorney Nancy Cartwright, Director of Public Works Wade Phillips, and Cameron Baker who is a managing member of Cryptic Farms.

Cryptic farms is a management firm that aids incoming crypto miners through the process of acquiring property and getting operations off the ground.

The meeting will be open to the public and will take place at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 24, at the JPH Convention Center (NorthArk South Campus); located at 1515 Pioneer Drive. All interested persons are invited to attend.
