Anthony Gomes fell in love with music growing up in Toronto, Canada. He was drawn to the raw sound of the blues and rock guitars as he listened to Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen and the King himself—B.B. King! The young man picked up an axe and sharpened his skills, and has not slowed down yet. He released his first album “Blues in Technicolor” in 1998, followed by 13 more albums and tours far and wide.

The Theatre Co. of the Ozarks and the Ozark Arts Council present Stephen King’s “Misery.” The presentation was adapted for the stage by William Goldman, this is the same version performed by Bruce Willis on Broadway, and the basis for the 1990 film with James Caan and Kathy Bates. The show opens Thursday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. and performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 7 with a matinee at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 8. at the Historic 1929 Lyric Theater on the Harrison Square.

The 2023 Boone County Fair and Northwest Arkansas District Fair announce the winners of the Fair Pageant and Talent Competition that was held Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Northwest Arkansas District Fairgrounds in Harrison. The pageant crowned two Queens in each age division to reign over the Boone County Fair and the Northwest Arkansas District Fair. There were age divisions for babies all the way up to age 75.

The Ridge Runner Cloggers' competition team recently attended the USA National Clogging Championships hosted by C.L.O.G. at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tennessee. Representing the state of Arkansas, the team joined fellow cloggers from across the country to compete in traditional and contemporary categories, as a team and individuals. Record-breaking attendance included 155 teams representing 91 clogging studios along with numerous independent entries.

The Searcy County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, at the First Christian Church to hear Dr. Jessica Kowalski, Station archeologist at the Fayetteville Arkansas Archeologist Survey. She will be talking about the 2023 University of Arkansas field school at Historic Cane Hill (HCH). Historic Cane Hill in Washington County, has a Searcy County connection in that the Director at HCH is 1998 MHS graduate Vanessa Norton McKuin. Several years ago Vanessa gave a program to the Searcy County Historical Society.
