LITTLE ROCK — Crews at the Arkansas Department of Transportation's North Little Rock Salt House were busy this week preparing for winter weather, mixing salt brine in 500-gallon batches with a target of 24,000 gallons on hand. The roads are treated with a beet juice-infused salt brine solution. more

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas has been awarded a $17 million grant, the Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Applying for the TMaH grant was among the recommendations made by the Strategic Committee for Maternal Health established by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ Executive Order last year, and the funds will support key efforts to improve the health of pregnant women, new mothers, and babies, the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) announced today. more

LITTLE ROCK — ADH produces a Weekly Viral Respiratory Diseases Report for clinicians. The report provides information on Influenza, COVID-19 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) activity in the state. The report also compares activities in Arkansas to the U.S. ADH receives reports of only a fraction of COVID-19 cases and flu cases since it only requires reports of flu hospitalizations, deaths, and outbreaks. RSV is not a reportable disease in Arkansas. Therefore, it is important to understand that the information in the weekly update is representative of the timing and location of activity, but it does not reflect the overall disease burden. more

The Buffalo River Conservation Commission (BRCC) met via internet in a Zoom meeting on morning, Dec. 20. CLARKSVILLE — At approximately 8:30  p.m. on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, an Arkansas State Police (ASP) Trooper performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver to stop a fleeing suspect on Interstate 40 westbound near the 61-mile marker. The fleeing suspect, driving a 2006 Honda Pilot, died from injuries he sustained when the vehicle traveled into a wooded area north of the interstate, striking trees before coming to rest. more
