Baseball has been a favorite Ozarks spring and summer pastime for over 100 years, and it still is. The youth baseball and softball seasons being in full swing, this nostalgic look back to “simpler times” in the early 1950’s, shows that baseball was quite popular then as now. Early Sunday morning, a tornado entered Marion County after damaging several structures in southern Boone County, including the Boone County Law Enforcement Center. The EF-3 tornado brought winds up to 145 mph as it followed US highway 62 to the south, near Pyatt, where it committed extensive tree damage before tossing and destroying mobile homes on county road 4010. more

ROGERS — Until further notice from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Beaver Lake Project Office, the Prairie Creek and Horseshoe Bend campgrounds and day use areas are closed. The boat ramps for both locations will remain open. Rocky Branch campground is also closed however, the day use area and boat ramp remain open. more

BERRYVILLE — Chief of police, Robert J. Bartos, has released more information concerning a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, May 18, outside the Auto Zone on West Trimble in Berryville. Berryville Police Officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:29 p.m. for a report of shots fired. more
Harrison City Council met in regular session on Thursday, May 23. The council resumed discussion of an item previously discussed at the May 9 committees meeting — condemnation requests for properties located at 810 South Hickory and 801 North Chestnut. more

On Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m., The Boone County War Memorial Association will meet at the Historic Downtown Harrison Bandstand for their Memorial Day ceremony. Representatives from the Harrison VFW Post 2881, The American Legion Post 44 and the DAV Chapter 6 will present during the wreath ceremony. Honored guest speaker & veteran, Lionel Cantu, will also be present. Special performances by vocalist Shelly Watson, Caven Clark, and the 1st Baptist Church Choir will be given.  The War Memorial Association express gratitude for the help of Boy Scout Troop 60, Sandra Hilliard with the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Ozark Arts Council, Tempo Sound, the Boone County Quorum Court, the EMS Color Guard and Camp Jack. more
The Boone County Cattlemen's Association met on May 9 at the John Paul Hammerschmidt Center at North Arkanasas College. This month's meeting was sponsored by Equity Bank in Harrison. BCCA President John Muncy welcomed those in attendance and led in the Pledge of Allegiance. Gerald King offered a blessing for the meal. Muncy recognized birthdays and anniversaries. We were treated to a meal of hamburgers and fixins', cowboy beans, coleslaw, condiments, assorted desserts, and water. more

JASPER — A military Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) officially named Mission: Ozark Wellness will be coming to Jasper and Kingston school campuses this summer. Officers of the US Army Reserve who will be leading the mission met with key community leaders from Newton County at the Jasper School Cafetorium Wednesday afternoon, May 8. They came to explain the scope of the mission and ask that the information be spread to the public so people in need of the services can benefit from them. more

BERRYVILLE — A fatal shooting occurred on Saturday, May 18, near the Auto Zone on West Trimble in Berryville. Berryville Police Officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:29 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located an individual with gunshot wounds. more
